California Masonic Foundation Privacy Notice

The following information relates to your privacy when using this website owned or controlled by the California Masonic Foundation (hereafter referred to as the “Foundation,” “we,” or “us”).  This Privacy Notice applies to the information we collect when you visit the Foundation’s website (the “Site”). 

This Notice describes how your information is processed or collected, as well as the choices that are available to you regarding the use of the information you provide.  This Notice should also be read in connection with the Foundation’s Terms of Use for accessing the Site.  

 

Types of Personal Information We Collect and Process

When you access or use the Site, we may collect and process “Personal Information” from you. Personal Information is any information that could reasonably be used to identify you, such as your name, address, email, and phone number. Personal Information includes “Sensitive Personal Information,” such as your ethnic background or payment information, for which the law provides enhanced protections.  

We collect Personal Information only as allowed by law and limit the collection to what is relevant and necessary to further the missions of the Foundation. In making a charitable contribution to the Foundation through the Site, we may collect the following Personal Information: name; address; phone numbers, email address, lodge affiliation; amount of your contribution; and bank and/or payment information.  

In applying for a scholarship through the Site, we may collect the following Personal Information: name, address, phone numbers, email address, Masonic affiliation, financial eligibility information, current and intended school of attendance, date of birth, religious affiliation, student ID number, social security number, ethnic background, intended major or career, and contact information for your parent or guardian. 

 

How Your Information is Collected

Your Personal Information (including Sensitive Personal Information) may be collected in a variety of ways, such as when making a charitable contribution or applying for a Foundation scholarship. Any Personal Information submitted by you to us is your implied consent for us to collect and use the information for our lawful and legitimate business purposes as described in this policy.  

In most cases, your Personal Information is voluntarily disclosed to us by you. However, some information may be collected virtually using “cookies.” Cookies are small text files placed on your computer by a website you visit that contains information on your activity on a specific website.  We use cookies with the intention of enhancing your user experience while concurrently allowing us to improve the design and functionality of our Site. How Your Information is Used

Your Personal Information collected through the Site is used for purposes of aiding the administration of the Foundation’s legitimate business, operational and charitable purposes and services. Your Personal Information will only be used for lawful purposes and will not be requested or collected for any other purpose.

In making a charitable contribution to the Foundation through the Site, your Personal Information is used for purposes such as processing the contribution, acknowledging donations, record keeping, recognizing stewardship opportunities, and soliciting further charitable donations. 

In applying for a scholarship with the Foundation through the Site, your Personal Information is used for the purposes of evaluating your eligibility, managing the administration of your scholarship, and maintaining contact with the recipients. 

 

How Your Information is Shared

Your Personal Information is only shared internally within the Foundation and externally with the Foundation’s corporate affiliates, third party contracted vendors, scholarship trustees, and charitable partners, when there is a legitimate business, operational or charitable purpose for sharing or accessing the information. The Personal Information shared is limited to only what is necessary to accomplish that purpose. We may share your Personal Information regarding a charitable contribution with our fraternal affiliates and third party contracted vendors in order to process and record and recognize charitable contributions.  In the case of a scholarship application, we may share your Personal Information with our charitable partners who facilitate our scholarship programs, your schools, and scholarship trustees in order to evaluate your eligibility and manage our scholarship programs. 

We may also share your Personal Information with government and law enforcement agencies or regulators to 1) comply with a legal process, subpoena, order or other legal or regulatory requirement applicable to us; 2) to enforce our terms or use of other policies; or 3) pursue available legal remedies or defend against legal claims.  The Foundation’s Privacy Notice does not apply to any Personal Information readily available to the public or your semi-public interactions on other websites not owned by the Foundation.  We also will not sell your Personal Information to third parties for any reason.    

 

How Your Information is Stored

We take the security of your information seriously. Your Personal Information will be stored on both internal and external servers and databases.  We use encryption technology to protect any of the above-described Sensitive Personal Information and use generally accepted standards to protect Personal Information. We only store your Personal Information for as long as needed to fulfill the particular purpose for which it was collected.  We may also retain your records if legally required or to fulfill a legitimate interest. 

 

Your Options Regarding Your Personal Information 

Submission of your Personal Information is entirely voluntary.  If you decline to submit your Personal Information for any reason you may, however, be unable to use certain Site features or receive certain services.  Once submitted, you may receive promotional emails from the Foundation’s Communications Team or from other marketing sources within the Fraternity.  If you do not wish to receive promotional emails or other communications, you may opt out of the recipient list by contacting the Privacy Office at privacy@freemason.org.  If you wish to review or verify the Personal Information collected by the Foundation, you may request to do so by contacting the Privacy Office.  You may also request a change, update, correction, or deletion of your Personal Information by contacting the Privacy Office. Such requests will be responded to and remedied, to the extent we are in control of the information, within 30 days. If you are also registered with the website freemason.org, your information may be available on the username and password protected website. We recommend that you review the Privacy Policy at freemason.org so you are aware of its policies as well. 

 

“Do Not Track” (DNT) Disclosure

If your browser or your computer software has an enabled a DNT feature to inform us that you do not wish to have your Personal Information collected by accessing the Site, the Foundation will be unable to respond to the request solely from receiving the signal. You must make the request to have your Personal Information removed by contacting the Privacy Office directly at privacy@freemason.org.  The Foundation does not engage nor authorize third parties to track your activity. If you suspect third parties are tracking your activity despite the DNT signal, you should contact the third party directly.

Changes and Updates to Privacy Policy

The effective date of this policy is July 12, 2018. The Foundation reserves the right to modify this Privacy Notice at any time and your continued use of this site will constitute your acceptance of such change. We encourage you to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices. In the event of a material change to this policy, you shall be notified via email using the Foundation’s most recent contact information for you.
